I've been walking around with a chip on my shoulder for a couple of days now. I don't know what it is. Actually, I do, but I don't wanna say.
Anyways, I was thinking about how I could expunge this suppressed anger today. And I was thinking the perfect remedy might be some really fast driving. Like, really fast. Although I do have a deep love for wintertime, I can't be all negative about the non-winter seasons. Spring smells pretty good, and fall is, fashionably speaking, my best season. But summer has one thing going for it that no other season can put on it's resume: window-down fast driving.
I can vividly remember driving up Warden, north of Highway 7, at 2 in the morning, doing about 150, with the windows down. I can't, unfortunately, remember what was on the radio, or even what station I was listening to. But, that doesn't matter too much. What's important is the darkness, the warmth radiating from the road, the windows being down, the wind really pushing my hair around, nobody on the road, never having to dim the high-beams, watching for deer or other animals running onto the road, and the pond that you have to swerve around (yes, you have to swerve around it, unless you're a grandma, and obey the speedlimit) when you pass Bloomington. Man. I love that curve. It's so much cooler than most other curves, because there's the idea that if you drove straight, you'd plunge into a pond. And that would certainly raise your insurance.
The other good driving is down Yonge Street after a scorching day. I love those days when it's so hot during the day that solid things everywhere just start sublimating directly into gasses. Because the nights following those days are made for driving down Yonge Street, turning left on Lakeshore, getting something to eat/drink at the Beaches Wendy's, and then driving back up the DVP really fast. I've had many a drive like that, and it's always good. And I'm not just sitting here writing this so you think I'm saying something cool and so you think I'm awesome or something.
I know you already do. :D
No, I'm saying this because it's true. Driving down Yonge on a Saturday night is so cool, because there are so many people still walking around Yonge at night on a summer weekend night. And those people, combined with the lights from store signs and ads, and the smell of summer in the city, and the relative comfort that you're in since the sun went down and the mercury in the thermometer turned back into a liquid, and the eating great, even late, at the Beaches Wendy's, and the quick drive home on the empty DVP, all make for the best drive you could think of.
AND, if you have some people to enjoy it with you....WELL.
So, are you gonna hate the weather today even more now that you can't do this?
