So from my last post to now, I've done the following:
1. Went to the driving range.
2. Went to a BBQ.
Other than that, I've done absolutely nothing, and I feel super refreshed. And that's great.
Over the long weekend, I bumped into about 6 people in random places. Some of them were people that I hadn't seen for a couple of years. I've recently had mixed ideas on keeping in touch with people that I know are of that lower-level type of friendship, but these people were welcome surprises. One of them was a girl that I knew in kindergarten, who was the daughter of my parents' friends, and I met her in grade 9 summer school as well, and then in university, and now I see her at church sometimes. If you believe in fate or any sort of teen-magazine wisdom (yes, that is an oxymoron) then we're apparently destined to be together. And who knows? This IS the summer of 1998 after all.
More importantly, though, I had lots of time to think. I'm not sure if it appears externally, but I think way more clearly when I'm not working/schooling. Last year on my year off, I thought at a much higher level than I do now. If you've ever read the book "Matilda" by Roald Dahl, you'll know that she was able to do all sorts of super powerful things because her brain power wasn't being used for anything else. Well, I'm the antithesis of Matilda these days, because work takes up alot of my time. But over the weekend I've had lots of time to think.
Which is how I figured a couple of things out. I had a conversation with one person this weekend where they were obviously looking for my help with something that's been bothering them for a while. But I really couldn't/didn't want to help them. I've told them everything I know to tell them, and I'm just repeating myself now. So I just politely avoided an extended conversation. I'm not finished thinking about whether this is a good thing to do or not. Even though I'm the last person who you would expect to say it, there are times when less talk is better. I'll see what happens.
Then there was another person who might be the reason why I'm added to the Summer of 1998 list. The reason being because I feel that I really felt like yelling at this person over the weekend. Unnecessary drama. And unncessary stress on me for absolutely nothing. I haven't felt so angry towards another person in a while, but this weekend was just so annoying that I couldn't bear it. I've gone over what I'd want to say to them in my head a couple of times, and it's never a pleasant conversation. The maddening thing is that I know that they wouldn't think there was anything wrong with what they did. So then I look like the bad guy. Oh well. In the immortal words of Kirsten Dunst's on-screen ex-boyfriend, "You know what? Whatever."
